Pear Chutney

At the end of summer as the pears come off the tree, pear chutney is a great way to create a delicious accompaniment to any meal. Loaded with antioxidants and herbs and spices, it is a great addition to detoxifying your system.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups chopped fresh pears

  • 3/4-1 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 3/4-1 cup sweetener (I prefer half coconut sugar, half scant, but most recipes call for brown sugar)

  • 1 heaping T fresh grated ginger

  • juice of 1/2-1 lemon (optional)

  • 1/8-1/4 tsp of any of the following: coriander, cardamom, turmeric, allspice, cayenne, cloves, cumin

  • 1 T cinnamon

  • fresh ground pepper and salt to taste

Here’s How:

  1. Chop pears, leaving skin on.

  2. Place in a large saucepan and add rest of ingredients.

  3. Mix and cook down for about 1-2 hours until a little looser than you might enjoy as it will thicken a bit when cool.

  4. Place in jars, seal and date.

  5. These make great holiday gifts.
