Nori Rolls

IMG_2028.jpeg

This is a fun nutritious easy meal and you can be creative with the ingredients!

Ingredients:

  • Toasted Nori sheets, maybe 2-3 per person

  • cooked rice, white or short grain brown (1/3 cup per roll approximately)

  • smoked salmon (1/2” row across nori sheet per roll)

  • thinly sliced colorful veggies: carrots, celery, red pepper, radishes, etc

  • avocado sliced thinly

  • pickled ginger (optional)

  • wasabi paste (optional)

  • wheat free Tamara or liquid aminos (served in a little dish)

  • small dish of aioli to add flavor and seal your roll by spreading at the edge and rolling it up.

Here’s How:

Place a nori sheet on a large plate and begin by pressing your grain into the sheet, leaving about 2-3” at the edge farthest away from you. If you are using quinoa, just keep it about 2-3’ wide across the nori sheet, in the same place you will start adding the rest of ingredients. (see the rest of description) Then start adding the slivers of things going from one side to the other about 2” from the side closest to you. After you add all that you want in it, begin to roll from the side closest to you and roll away from yourself, tucking and evening along the way. As you approach the end, you can seal the roll with a touch of water lightly dabbed on the last few inches or spread the aioli there and keep rolling until it seals.

We like to eat the nori roll like a hot dog rather than slicing it up as unless you use sushi rice, it will fall apart if you cut it into little rounds.

You can be creative with your rolls. I don’t use the grain but fill my roll with lightly dressed greens. You could also use egg omelette style, sliced into strips, turkey bacon sliced thinly, cooked chicken or even steak. How about roasted asparagus spears, sliced thinly…

This meal is fun with friends as everyone gets to make their own creation and it is beautiful to look at the arranged platter.
